I joined this group because I spent three years among some ELCA Lutherans while I attending Bethany College (a liberals arts ELCA school) in Lindsborg (Little Sweden), Kansas.

My first two years there, I was a non-Lutheran Christian. It was my last year at Bethany did I recieve adult catechism at Grave Ev. LCMS in McPherson, KS, under Pr. Jeff Williams.

While neither I nor my congregation are members of the ELCA, my parish was an ELCA congregation until 2002, and there are several congregations in our area that are still a part of the ELCA at this time. I wanted to stay updated on developments there as my parishoners do ask me what's going on in the ELCA.

My wife and I were life long ELCA Lutherans until we moved from PA to CA in 2005. We decided to join a confessional LCMS congregration with two excellent pastors in Cupertino, CA. There is a big difference between this church and our former ELCA church.

Good Friends, Good Morning from Minneapolis;
My attendance at the Word Alone National Convention (just this past Sun./Mon.) was extremely helpful/ important in firming up some decisions in my own mind & heart; A debate/discussion (mainly the latter) took place during one of the Plenary Sessions in which financial support to the ELCA was discussed at length. I was "on the fence", so to speak, in my giving/offerings, willing to give to my Church's treasury week by week, month by month; with $$$ going to ELCA in Chicago. This practice of mine has now come to a screetching halt.
Oh, I still give offerings to my Church: to the new Piano purchase fund; Local Boyscouts who bring in the Pancake breakfast once or twice a year, Feed the Children collection banks around the building, and to Global Health Ministries based right here in Minnesota. This way my hard earned $$$ can stay right here in MN or be channelled directly to the Maasai Medical Clinic projects in Tanzania. More of my offerings will also be sent directly to the W.A.Network in addition to it's partnership with the new ReClaim Hymnal publication group; Just my way of getting around support for the nonsense going on in the ELCA as we speak...

Steve
Might I suggest a new "chariable organization" that I am starting. I call it the "Get Steve Bliss a Big-Screen High Def TV" fund. So far, not many takers, but you could be the one that really gets the ball rolling. Just throwing that out there.

Steve...You can count on some contributions for your Big screen to one of my favorite Confessional Lutheran Pastors; I've learned so much from all of you, I owe you big time; I believe my current views regarding a pull back on my ELCA giving just reflects what I've been reading about for the past many years; my goodness; entire congregations are dropping their benevolence to ELCA in Chicago; it's as if they have blinders on and can't see the writing on the walls...!!

Today marks the 479th anniversary of the presentation of the Augsburg Confession.
"This is a Confession that well even prevail against the gates of hell, with the grace and help of God." Dr. Gregory Bruck, while presenting the Augustana to the Emperor Charles the V.

All glory and honor be to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit who graciously preserves and protects our confession. In this time of spiritual conflict in the ELCA, where the Word of God is viewed as a collection of moral stories, ancient mythology and thoughts of simple unsophisticated people, may we, with the help of the Holy Spirit, ever be kept steadfast in the ONE true faith, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Don't look now the sky is falling. ELCA News release. McCormick will initiate a process to "disengage" from a real estate arrangement with LSTC (Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago) as early as June 2010. McCormick Theological Seminary is one of 10 seminaries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
