I just became a junkie, and already I'm in withdraw.

Pastor Wilken made me think about "issues" christians often like to avoid. For example, the show he did on sexual predators still haunts me. If they repent, how does a church deal with them in the community of Christ? For three hours, I held a phone in my hand - but I could not find words in my mouth to respond. He knew we were struggling with this issue - but that is exactly his point. The cross, our cross, is a daily struggle for each and every Christian. I believe I became addicted to being challenged in what I believe, teach and confess. I miss them.

Issues and my friend Aaron Wolf were instrumental in my move to Lutheranism. Aaron is still my friend but Issues has been stolen away. Todd and Jeff, I will be looking for ways to join the effort to help you both. Jeff Anderson McKinney, Texas

I very much miss this program, I would listen to it often with my two older kids and we would discuss topics and found it handled so many current issues that they face at school or just need to strength their faith (from witnessing to Mormons, to infant baptism, to cloning and abortion, Christian mind and thinking) just to name a few. While the archives are there they down load verrrrrry slow. The Radio station is not making it user friendly. I also miss it because topics like vocation and the theology of the cross helped me with daily issues in my Christian walk.

I'm visiting my family in the US, and going back home to Japan tomorrow morning. I only began listening to the program via internet less than a year ago, and have been devouring it. Now, I will have no Issues, Etc. programs to feed me as a confessional Lutheran isolated in the rice fields. God will use this for good, most definitely, but I am still in mourning. Last week felt long, and this one will, too, as I won't have access to the internet to follow all the happenings. Praying is all I can do at the moment.

I'm still upset by this tragic decision. I return to the former IE web site hoping I missed the resurrection of the show. In this day and age Todd and Jeff could easily have a program which is podcast alone. I guess the two need to discern what is next. "All thing work for the good..."

While this is no equal substitute for IE but check out White Horse Inn (whitehorseinn.org). You might recognize Rev. Dr. Michael Horton and Rev. Dr. Rod Rosenbladt as guest on IE. I know Todd has been on the White Horse as well. I always found the weekly podcast was complimentary to IE.

The new reason for Issues Etc., being dumped was due to few listeners and lack on $$$.

If Issues Etc., only had a small percentage of listeners and lost so much money then I suspect the only logical thing to consider is that the whole station of KFUO should be shut down soon because I know of fewer people who listen to the other programs offered by KFUO then I do those who listen to Issues Etc.

So if this reasoning is true, then everyone should expect an abrupt and unannounced act of canceling the who station very soon.

When I was in seminary, I worked at KFUO. Back then, the funds were all raised from pledges and were done in house.

After the new administration took over Synod, they changed their policy. Synod started to use professional fundraisers for KFUO.

I'm not sure about now, but I know earlier on that they did not raise nearly as much money and they took a hefty cut of the proceeds.

Maybe someone in the know could tell us if this is still true.

Seems to me that the new answer is basically - we hired fundraisers who stink. They were ineffective so we cut the programming.

Perhaps the answer is not the programming, but the ineffective fundraising methods.

When I heard about Issues, Etc. was cancelled, I was stunned! Issues Etc. was a great program and it it helped me to understand the things of God in a clear and applicable way while I was at Concordia Seminairy in St. Louis from 2000 - 2005. I liked the way Todd Wilken dealt with the tough theological and postmodern issues.

I don't consider myself a cynic, but i can't help but wonder...was this part of a plan to silence the voice of confessional Lutherans within the LCMS? Just wondering....

Greetings; a member of my congregation, Mollie Ziegler Hemingway, has written an outstanding article for the Wall Street Journal regarding the Issues, Etc. scandal. You are invited to read it here.
