LCMS Restructuring

2009 is a year of District Conventions within the LCMS. At these Conventions, there are presentations regarding proposals for restructuring of the LCMS. Sweeping changes are proposed. What are they? What do you think? What can be done?

Hello, Pr. Schlamann: So, any thoughts about it all?
Comment by Rev. Mark Schlamann on January 24, 2009 at 3:53pm
I've not read up on it like I want to, but what I've heard is not good.

It comes across as an attempt to funnel more cash to synod-pure and simple. There is no other reason that makes sense. Perhaps if we stopped spending so much money on items with firey logos, we'd have a lot more for actual missions. Just my thought.

Hi guys, a warm welcome from the great state of North Dakota, even though the temperature is a balmy minus twelve. Pr. Schlamann you are right. The news from the ND District convention is not good. If you want, a discussion has already been started on this dog and pony show, I think it was called, on Scott Diekmann's page. Of course you cannot have enough conversation on this subject. For those of you preparing for your turn at convention, all I can say is prepare more now so that they will not try to slip that proverbial wool over your eyes. I can tell you one thing. This is not so much about money as it is about power.

This is beginning to sound alot like that song by Ozzy Osborn, Crazy Train.......AAAALLLLLL ABOOOAARD! Talk about a railroad job! I read the email from the CAT41 list and then followed up on Scott Diekmann's blog. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You know, that light at the end of the tunnel? It's the headlight of an on coming train! We best derail this "long black train" soon.

Yes, Pr. Swofford, I concur that this at least about power -- money, too, but more about power, I fear. At the very least: "We can, so we will try to." I did not know that this had been started at Diekmann's blog. Have y'all taken a good hard look at the presentation which was made to the N.D. Convention? See it here and tighten your seat belt:

Pr. Wollenburg, I tried the web site, but it does not work. Are you referring to the presentation of the Blue Ribbon Task Force?
Comment by Rev. Alan J. Wollenburg on January 24, 2009 at 5:39pm
Yes, Pr. Swofford. Did you copy and paste? Also, it requires some sort of a flash player -- if you don't have it, you won't be able to view it. This is different from the first things at the LCMS website -- this is the actual presentation which was made to the N.D. Convention. It appears to me (but I could be wrong) that this is the presentation which will be made to all of the conventions (or, if there is major flack, I wonder if they'll be changing it as they go along?). It is NOT a hard copy (like a pdf) or I would be glad to copy it to you. But make sure that your 'puter has whatever flash player it needs. When I went there I got it fine.

I won't have time next week to dedicate much work to this, but i do hope, after next week, to spend a day or two closely reviewing the presentation and sharing exactly what is different from our present structure. Amongst them are: change the name of the synod (b/c we appear to be so "little" - sheesh), allow comissioned ministers (Synodically-trained teachers) to be voting delegates (thus further disenfranchising the laity, in my opinion), allowing DP's to, in effect, veto the approval of sem graduates (if they don't deem them to have the right personalities, people skills, etc.) . . . .

Pr. Wollenburg, I'll try it. From what I could gather at the ND convention is that yes, this presentation is suppose to be given to all the conventions. Whether it will change along the way only time will tell.
