For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there were none of them.
Psalm 139: 13-16 ESV

But I trust in you, O Lord;
I say, "You are my God."
My times are in your hand.
Psalm 31:14-15

I am on a group district chat list. A person on the list posted this. I thought it so good, I asked her if I could share this with you all.

My Isaac is ten. He is very thoughtful and effected by life. Very much so. I want my children to have servant hearts and be socially aware. That is until the other day.
Some of my favorite ( and least favorite) conversations happen while I am driving with my boys. This past week I noticed Isaac was particularly quiet. After awhile he asked "Mom-what does abortion mean?"
"Well- it is a procedure to end a pregnancy." Not a conversation that I wanted to have with this particular child. I prayed for my phone to ring, my other child to interrupt, even a deer to run out in front of us.
"What do you mean mom- like by accident"
"No."
"Well- what do you mean procedure?"
"Sometimes an operation or sometimes by drugs." Hopefully vague enough that there will be time for a deer-and why now is that other boy quiet?!
"MOM I DON"T GET IT! What is abortion?"
"Isaac-sometimes a women gets pregnant and does not want to be."
"But it is still a baby- right"
"Of course-even out of bad choices come blessings."
"Then why would a mom not want to be pregnant? And I still don't get it-just tell me-what is abortion?"
"It kills the baby."
Now with tears in his eyes and an awful knot in my head and stomach-"Mom-why doesn't someone stop it? Do the police know?"
"Yes"
"Does the president know?"
"Yes"
"Why don't they arrest those people who are killing babies?"
"Because it is legal"
"You mean they know and let it happen? So you can just kill babies because you don't want to be pregnant or be responsible?"
"I know it is awful honey but we pray that our country's leadership will continue to fight against this. And God is still in His Heaven and in control even when we don't understand." Still hoping for my phone, deer, sudden noise-and when has that other boy been this quiet!
"What does Barack Obama believe? Will he fight to stop this?"
"no"
"Well how soon can John McCain run again? In a year?" Now his tone is almost in desperation. My stomach hurts-I am mad at the world and feel like I have let this little boy down by not personally and single handedly stopping this horrific abuse.
"No Isaac-not for 4 more years. But we pray that God will change hearts and He is still in control."
Now his eyes are turned downward-"What if after the baby is born even a couple months later can people still kill it. Like Herrod did? Can people kill children that are 2 or 3 or older? Because if it's ok to kill babies that did not even do anything- what if they change laws to kill older children?"
I stopped the car and reassured Isaac that that won't happen- that people think unborn babies aren't babies until they are born. It all felt shallow and insufficient- he just turned his head toward the window so I couldn't see him crying- I tried reassuring him that I would never let anything happen to him. Still not enough to fix this or replace the innocence that was just lost. I reminded him that God is still in control. But I think at that point I was trying to remind myself as well as him. I prayed with him and we both cried quietly the rest of the way to wal-mart. He hasn't asked any more. But my heart is still heavy.
I am not making a political statement- just remembering out loud. And thankful for God's CERTAIN reassurance that He is always in control.
I pray this finds you well.
In Christ-
Jayne Maser

This is something we all need to think about as the new president is about to be inaugurated, and I pray that he will have a change of heart and not sign the "Freedom of Choice" act. If he claims he wants abortions to be rare, how can he even consider signing something like this?

Please join my Pro-Life group, 'Pray for Malta,' read the facts about this singular Pro-Life country that is opposing the UN's attempts to coerce them into decriminalizing abortion, and then pray and spread the news!

Dear Lutherans for Life,
Greetings in Christ.
I'm not sure where else to go with this problem, but I was recently shocked and disgusted to hear the music director of KFUO's FM station, John Roberts, play some music and make several comments in honor of that enemy of the Church in particular, and humanity in general, Barack Obama.
If radio deejays claiming to play music in the name of the LCMS and the seminary think they can misrepresent us in this way, they need to be severely reprimanded.
Unless the LCMS and Concordia Seminary want to be regarded as supporters of partial birth abortion and homosexual marriage, the leaders of both the Synod and Seminary need to voice their protest to the leadership of Classic99.
I suggest everyone send an email to jroberts@classic99.com and protest this action, as well as contact anyone else at http://www.classic99.com/etc.htm to insist that Lutherans not be misrepresented in this way to the larger non-Christian public that listens to this station, which is the only classical music station in St. Louis.
Thanks.
Grace, peace and my best wishes.
Sincerely,
J.W.

Pastor Case, would you post or send a transcript of what John Roberts said. I have no idea what he said that has upset you so much. Thanks,

Hello, JW!

I'm not entirely sure that speaking supportively of a new president is entirely unchristian. While I didn't vote for him, God saw fit to bring Barak Obama into the Office of the Presidency of the United States Of America.

Being a Christian is not even a requirement for the job...

Having said that, I will be writing my president very often -- whether I agree or disagree with any public stance. I did the same with President Bush. I did the same with President Clinton. I did the same with President Bush 41.

The 4th commandment says that we are to honor our countries leaders. We honor the office, but when they go against God's will we can state out the fact, and not agre with it. I pray he doesn't sign FOCA, which he said he would when he first started campaigning. (He promised it, I think I heard, at a Planned Parenthood Rally. I pray we have enough pro-life congressmen or at least enough that believe in states rights, and won't take the states laws that they've passed to limit abotions away. That is what we should pray for Might not hurt to call or write your congressmen.

Please refer to my conversation below with Isaac........
Now how do I explain to a worried little boy that a man who says it is ok to kill babies will not make a law to kill 10 yr olds. It has been a long evening talking to him about why Mr. Obama holds the "values" that he does. In no way do I believe that the outcome of this election was God's will. Still not making a political statement-just a moral one. God help us all.

Rely on your faith and believe that God WILL help us all. God is in control!

Jane,
I know it must be difficult with a worried little boy, but even little boys need to trust that God works all things together for good. Not that we can always see it, but He does...... Bless you, and re-assure Isaac that God is in control. Maybe if people can start to see things about life issues going bad enough, they'll wake up and start to actually care. We can pray so.

I'm so sorry that a little boy would be concerned with such a thing. I wonder if he has been listening to some grown up conversations. We inaugurated a president today, not a monster. I don't think 10 year olds have to worry about President Obama wanting to kill them. Let's be realistic. Let us put our hope and trust in the One who is more powerful than even the one who holds the most powerful office on earth, our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our protector against the evil one and all evil. Let us honor our new President and pray for him that he indeed heeds the Word of God and does what is right in His sight. Amen.
