The St. John Chrysostom Lutheran Preacher's Retreat

A 3 day annual preacher's retreat held in Canada to help the parish pastor grow in his preaching. A time of growth and renewal as we pray Matins, Vespers, and Compline.

For those who have attended, plan on attending, or wish they could attend one of the St. John Chrysostom Lutheran Preachers' Retreats.
The St. Chrysostom Lutheran Preachers' Retreat exists as a resource to the ministerium of Lutheran Church-Canada. We receive much training in theology in our seminary years, but not nearly as much emphasis on applying that which we have learned in the art of preaching. Because of the vast amount of material needing to be covered in the seminary curriculum, there are often only 3 or 4 total courses in preaching required to graduate. Yet preaching is one of the chief acts of the pastoral office. In order to build each other up in the art and practice of theology, Pastor Michael Keith initiated this retreat. The retreat itself is open only to members of the ministerium of Lutheran Church-Canada, or church bodies with whom we are in fellowship (e.g. the LCMS) but all are welcome to make use of the resources found on this page.

Our prayer is that by joining together in a time of prayer, study, and practical application, we would be better enabled to serve our congregations with the holy, divine Word of God through our preaching, and so hold forth the Law and Gospel as "workmen approved...rightly dividing the Word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)

I'll be there this year. Should I bring some fine Manitoba microbrew?

Beer is for unrefined tastes. Bring a bottle of port. :-)

Mike, I commend you for continuing this retreat and for the interesting speakers and topics you have arranged. So far I have only been able to attend the 1st one but thoroughly enjoyed it. I am away again this year attending a seminar involving Gordon Lathrop [whom I enjoy reading although his theology is a little liberal for my taste] and Karen Ward [who is doing some interesting things in the Seattle area]. I would very much like to hear Wil Weedon's presentation on forgiveness BUT I must get my books signed by Lathrop and I am very interested in hearing what Karen Ward has to say. I look forward to 2009.

The retreat is about half-full. Get your registrations in and get the word out!

And don't forget to invite Rudy! What would this retreat be without our little scotch - sucking, photograph taking, cigar - puffing, rumour spreading friend?
