Hope y'all don't mind my joining you. I am serving in Festus, MO, but I will always call Portland, Oregon home.

Greetings to all you west coasters. Neat that somebody started this group so I could join it. I live in Roseburg OR and am active in CLCC and Called to Confess (NW Confessionals) and not a lot of places to go to church in the area where I live. Maybe I even know some of you. I hope so.

Just a reminder to look at my last post concerning the upcoming seminar. Time is fleeting by and early registration (reduced rate) is just over a week away. Please try to make it if you can, you really don't want to miss this almost singular opportunity in the NW for this type of training Gene

Here is a message put out by the CLCC PR person that may be of some interest. Also, our first CLCC seminar in Hillsboro, OR is just days away. I will be in attendance and will try to put a review out for you next week. Other seminars are in planning as I speak and details will be out soon. You can request one as well. Gene

8/18/08Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

You may have noticed that a lot of Lutherans don’t understand what it is to be a Lutheran anymore, be they members of your congregation or family. One of our main goals is to help Lutheran lay people see how precious the gift of faith that was given to them at their Baptism really is. That organization is Confessional Lutherans for Christ’s Commission (CLCC). I think a lot of Lutherans have taken their faith for granted and are willing to let it just slip away. Most don’t even realize what they’re at risk of losing. We need each of you to be pro-active in spreading the word about Confessional Lutheranism and that there is help available for people to better understand it.

The CLCC is doing that by helping connect people with good confessional material that is already out there. We plan to hold seminars around the country that will cover topics not always typical to many Bible studies, such as Reformation history; Evangelism, Outreach and Assimilation from a scriptural, confessional perspective; studies on the confessions, etc. I’m hoping we can locate a good one on worship as well, as that is a very important topic we are facing today. We know that practice effects doctrine but that is not a well-understood relationship. A lot of people don’t think about the connection, and they need to.

If anyone has a good study they’d like to share with the CLCC to use in a seminar, please contact me, Kari Anderson, at Publicity@theclcc.org. Also contact me if you are interested in having a seminar in your local area. I’d really love to hear from you! We are working on getting one set up in UT and MN, and you could be the next. We can help you with the planning, plus provide the instructor and the handout materials.

Will you help by communicating with other confessionals in your churches and families? You can talk to others that just need a little nudge to also realize that we have to be ready to defend the faith we have. As Lutheran lay people learn what we believe, teach and confess, they will be more comfortable confessing their faith with confidence to others.
To that end, we are also holding our first Regional Conference in Oct 23-24, in St. Cloud, MN to further our teaching objectives. Watch for details. If you or your church would want to hold a future Regional Conference in your area that would also provide a good opportunity to spread the word. (Seminars are basically a half-day event covering single topic, while conferences are two-day events and cover two or more topics in parallel.)

We hope you have checked out our web site at www.THECLCC.org. We are busy recruiting members so if you are not signed up please consider doing so. These funds go towards our educational efforts. Perhaps a tax-deductible gift would work also. (Our application for not-for-profit status has been filled with the IRS. Once received it will be retroactive to the date of incorporation. A membership form is available on our web site. We also want churches to join and there is a form for that too. Churches will be offered our materials free of charge as part of their membership benefit. It also shows that as members they are interested in having their entire congregation appreciate the fact that they are truly Lutherans.

We have been working with another new organization, The Brothers of John the Steadfast. We are hoping our two new organizations can complement each other well. We contribute to a Regular Column on their web site www.steadfastlutherans.org, under; you guessed it, Regular Columns, then Church News/Confessional Groups, so please check it out! There is a monthly archive capability too.

There are many great tools out there, like the Faithful networks, the Wittenberg Trail, Issues Etc, and other new programs on www.piratechristianradio.com and now two new organizations to help educate people. I hope that we confessionals can all work together with the help of God, to get more people to come to appreciate Lutheranism and to stop being evangelical wannabes!

Blessings to you all,

Confessional Lutherans for Christ's
Commission Newsletter
January 2009

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

I pray you all had a Blessed Christmas. We are now in the season of Epiphany. January is almost over, too. We've been working on getting our web site improved with additional features. Norm Fisher is doing that for us. I want to say a huge thank you to Dave Schwarz for all the work he did previously on the web site. He did a great job, but we're trying to add more features and make it easier to maintain, so now Norm is helping us do that. Check out the redesigned site if you haven't yet (or even if you have) at www.theclcc.org/, something new might be there. You can let us know what you think by getting in touch with us. We'd love to hear from our web site visitors.

The CLCC has two Evangelism, Outreach, and Assimilation (EOA) Seminars coming up in Washington State in February. One is at Peace Lutheran Church in Chehalis, WA, on Feb 21st. The other is at Messiah Lutheran Church in Maryville, WA, on Feb 28th. Another EOA Seminar is on the docket for April 18th in Finlayson, MN. More details to come on that one. To get fliers or more information on these upcoming events please contact Kari Anderson at publicity@theCLCC.org or Gene White at treasurer@theCLCC.org. Even if you're not from one of those areas, please post the fliers and have them announced in your church bulletins and newsletters. We need to bring hope and get the word out. We'd really appreciate it.

We are also still trying to build the CLCC library. We're talking about Bible Studies to be reviewed by our BOD, and also seminar topic ideas. If you would like to become a instructor for the CLCC, please, we'd love to hear from you. As we book more seminars the need for instructors grows.

We have new seminar/study topics being released very soon. "LC-MS Church Polity," and "Worship and Divine Service," are in the review process. If these latter two are of interest let us know too.

CLCC currently has an ad running on Issues Etc, an excellent confessional Lutheran source discussing many interesting topics including Lutheran theology. We are hoping this ad will get our name out to another part of the confessional world via their radio program and pod-casts. We've had inquiries from as far away as Philippines, Australia, and Canada! You are encouraged to tune in to Issues, Etc. and support this worthy cause and learn something from their many interesting guests. Speaking of Issues Etc, the Brothers of John the Steadfast was organized in May to help support new media and educate the laity. They are having their first National Convention February 13th and 14th in Naperville. Visit http://steadfastlutherans.org and click on the National Conference icon on the right sidebar for more information.

We are looking for more members to help us so we can offer more seminars and get more people to become aware of what we, as Lutherans, believe, teach and confess. We also want to remind you to renew your CLCC membership. We need and appreciate all you paid members, because we can't exist without you. Membership forms are available on the CLCC website to download.

We'd like to encourage you to read your Book of Concord along with your Bible to help you grow in the faith. We have a link to the BoC on our web site, but I know I'm one that likes a real book, and CPH has the "Concordia, The Lutheran Confessions" on sale for $22. The Readers Edition has historical information as well as beautiful artwork to help you understand the history of our Lutheran Confessions. CPH just came out with a pocket version for $15 that includes just the text of the BoC that is convenient to take to Bible classes; check out the various editions at http://cph.org/concordia.

We are going to start recommending some good books to read. I'd like to recommend reading "The Fire and the Staff" by Pr Klemet Preus. It's Lutheran theology in doctrine and practice and we have used parts of it, with permission, for our upcoming seminar "Worship and Divine Service." Our practice does affect our doctrine. I've started looking into having a Fall Retreat in MN with that book as the topic to study. It's in the very early planning stages, but keep your eye out for more info on it in the months ahead.
Please check out all the new web site offers. We have updated the bulletin insert. Print some out to distribute in your churches. We also have some good links to explore from our web site. Members should register on the site to gain access to the membership side of the site.

Please ask about hosting a seminar in your area this spring, summer, or in the fall. Visit our Website, click on Seminars, and there are guides that will make planning and hosting a seminar easier available. Contact any of us if you want a copy of these mailed to you.

Our BOD met on Jan 12th and approved the 2009 budget.

They also accepted Rev Robert Harris, of Chehalis, WA to be on our BOD. Rev Harris is a retired military chaplain. We're happy to have him join us.

They also approved having "Called to Confess", a free confessional group from the NW to become an associate organization member of the CLCC.

If you know a group that would want to be an associate organization member please let us know..

Blessing to you,
Kari Anderson PR for the CLCC

Dear brothers and sisters,

While you are drinking your next glass of wine consider this new report. By the way, there is an excellent new winery about 1/2 mile from my house called Melrose Winery. Do stop in and check it out.

The Confessional Lutherans for Christ's Commission (CLCC) has a new seminar that could be very beneficial for your church members and for others in your area. This is the second one of these seminars to be held. It will be a free will donation, since it's still new, and there could be some minor changes to it after we have it. We hope you can attend. We hope you will also want to have one of these seminars in your church in the future. Please contact us if you'd like to schedule one.

Worship & Divine Service Seminar

Worship and Divine Service is a seminar primarily designed to counter the
eroding influences any Lutheran congregation will face in its community. This
seminar comes to you in three lessons that have common threads and rationale to
support the continuum of worship from Genesis to the present time. Lesson
1 does this for the Old Testament period. Lesson 2 picks up that
theme at the time of Jesus and tracks some of the changes in worship styles and
their focus up to the time of the Reformation. Lesson 3 starts with
Lutheran Divine Services in North America and then contrasts this with
contemporary worship styles and music found in a typical non-denominational
church. Following the section on music there is a section on Holy Communion as a
sacrament, communion as a remembrance (Reformed) and open communion. Then we
close off with a section on practices (adiaphora) and a summary. If you have
been exposed to contemporary worship for a long period of time this seminar can
be instrumental in illustrating why your worship experience may not be
fulfilling, from a spiritual point of view.
