I am a confessional Lutheran and deeply concerned about the direction of our Synod (LCMS). It is helpful to know that there are other Lutherans out there who are concerned and to learn their thoughts on important matters of faith and practice. I am the retired Music Director & Conductor of the Idaho Falls Symphony, member of the adjunct Music faculty at Idaho State University and a former professional musician and professor.

I enjoy photography, camping, backpacking, skiing and the outdoors, in general, as well as good German beer and food.

Trinity Sermons

I would like to call everyone's attention to two solid Lutheran sermons preached by Reverend David Bott at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Jackson, WY. These are among his best sermons in the four plus years of which I have been a member. I commend them to your viewing. The sermons may be found at the Redeemer Web Site: Redeemerlutheranjackson.org

Veiled Slander and Rebuttal

Jesus First has reached a new low in its attacks on Pastor Harrison. Their JF#9 letter implies that there is fiscal irresponsibility and lack of careful stewardship under Pastor Harrison's leadership. This tactic is despicable and a clear violation of the Eighth Commandment - and this from men who assert they are "Gospel Centered, faithful Lutherans.

I have included the link to their screed:…

Redeemer, jackson, WY

Through the hard work of two members at Redeemer, Kiley Campbell and Marvin Cotney, videos of sermons delivered by Rev. David Bott are available at our web site redeemerlutheranjackson.org. Pastor Bott's sermons are solid Law & Gospel sermons and, in or opinion, well worth viewing.

The View from Wyoming

We have been watching what one of our members calls the "Food Fight in Oakland." The CNH District's suit against four members of Our Redeemer, Oakland has hit You Tube and also been all over ConcordTX and MNN. A number of us at Redeemer, Jackson, WY have discussed this and done some research. There is still a great confusion as to what is really going on. But the incident prompted one of our members (and WT member) Randy Bosch to write the following. It is very germane to the situation in Synod… Continue

Nothing New Under the Sun

Writings of St. Basil the Great bemoaning the impact of Arian heresy on the Church. I guess this proves there is no new heresy or sin under the sun. It makes for disturbingly relevant reading for our own time and Synod.

Our afflictions are well known without my telling; the sound of them

has gone forth over all Christendom. The dogmas of the Fathers are despised;

apostolic traditions are set at naught; the discoveries of innovators hold

sway in churches. Men have… Continue

Dr. Adams,
Thank you for your kind comments on my most recent sermon. The theology of glory seems to be taking our beloved church by storm. In the district in which I serve, being a purpose filled Christian in a purpose filled church is the popular message of the day. Life under the Cross of Christ is shuned, God is removed from our churches and Jesus from our altars and worship. I ruffle feathers when I preach such messages, but such messages need to be preached. It is only by the grace of God that I have the strength to do so. Soli Deo Gloria!

Thanks for commenting on the picture of my FJ-40. I bought it new in March 1977. That summer, I took the top off and drove it from WY to CA and back. Except for being sunburned, windburned, and almost deaf, I had a great time. My two oldest nephews came along for the trip.

About a year and a half ago, I had quite a bit of body work done, and a new paint job (original color). That cost me almost exactly the same as the Cruiser cost new! Now I need to work on the exhaust and some interior work, and it will be like new.

You have a beautiful dog!
I see you must know German? The CLCC has put together a seminar/conference titled "Your Reformation Walk". Gene White, who wrote it has many beautiful pictures of churches in Germany and Europe. I think he discovered a lot of great dark beer there, too. You may enjoy having the seminar come to your area. If Lutherans learn to appreciate our heritage and roots, and how firm our forefathers were in their stand of what we believe and why we believe it, they will come to appreciate being Lutheran again.

James: I am surronded by such teaching. Despite sincere faith in God and an honest desire to bring in people to God, false teaching is creeping in. Don't worry- I am learning, and am starting to question, trying to make a statement. I hope this gives you comfort.
