Baptism and Love

Thus in Baptism we Christians have all obtained one brotherhood. From this no saint has more than I and you. For I have been bought with just as high a price as he has been bought. God has spent just as much on me as He has spent on the greatest saint. The only difference is that the saint may have grasped the treasure better and may have a stronger faith than I have.Love, however, is greater than brotherhood; for it extends also to enemies, and particularly to those who are not worthy of love.…See More

From Today's Treasury of Daily Prayer

Just as you cannot make out of the gospel a sacrifice or a work, so you cannot make a sacrifice or a work out of this sacrament; for this sacrament is the gospel. Therefore, in this matter no one can achieve anything for another person. Each one must believe for himself, just as I must believe all the Gospels for myself. I cannot hear or believe or keep for any one else so much as a single letter of the gospel, even as I cannot be baptized for any one else. But a good work I can always do to…See More

The Gospel is the force, power, and work of Christians

The Gospel is the force, power, and work of Christians, and those people are true Christians who from day to day learn the same Word more and more and do not quickly become disdainful and get sick of it. The sectarians, on the other hand, are those who think at once that they fully understand what they have heard only once. A Christian must always learn to say: “Thy will be done.” To be sure, it is easy to utter words, but in this life one will never add feeling in a perfect manner. This will…See More

Can Jesus Help Us or Not? Mark 9:14-29 with thanks to Tim Saleska's notes in Concordia Journal

Can Jesus Help Us or Not? Mark 9:14-29Coming down from the Mount of Transfiguration where Peter, James and John saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus and witnessed the glory of God in the face of their Master, they come upon a great crowd of people. Right in the middle of the crowd an argument is foaming between the other 9 disciples, the scribes, and a man whose son is possessed by a demon. And immediately all the crowd, when they saw [Jesus], were greatly amazed and ran up to Him and greeted…See More

He is mine and I am His

By the wedding ring of faith he shares in the sins, death, and pains of hell which are his bride’s. As a matter of fact, he makes them his own and acts as if they were his own and as if he himself had sinned; he suffered, died, and descended into hell that he might overcome them all. Now since it was such a one who did all this, and death and hell could not swallow him up, these were necessarily swallowed up by him in a mighty duel; for his righteousness is greater than the sins of all men, his…See More

"Romans 4 : 13-16 13 It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. 14For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and…"
