Who Said, "I Will Cling to My Lord Christ Like a Burr…"? Hint: Not Luther's Wife.

I was piqued during my translation of Valerius Herberger's Magnalia Dei by a statement which attributed the quote abovementioned, viz., "I will cling to my Lord Christ like a burr to a frock" (or some variant thereof) not to Katharina von Bora Luther, as we are all told and as so many devotionals, at least in the English-speaking world, freely repeat without (early) citation—but rather the lady Katharina, Duchess of Saxony, mother of Duke Augustus, Elector. Importantly, the original statement…See More

The works of the righteous would be mortal sins if they would not be feared as mortal sins by the righteous themselves out of pious fear of God.

Did you go to All Saint's in Long Beach?
I was raised at Our Saviour's Lutheran in Long

Hey Matthew. I live in Starkville, MS and there's only a handful of us in the Lutheran faith down here, as far as I can tell. Most of the "bible belt" denominations are Southern Baptist around where I live, and growing. There are over 60 Baptist churches in a 50 sq mile area from where I live. Nice to know a fellow who appreciates historical Christianity instead of Charismatics and the like. Pax.

I grew up the son of a Lutheran Pastor, and am now also considering heading off the Minnesota this summer for Pre-Sem. If you are anywhere in the South I am sure you know that Lutheranism is rather scarce. So, I am thrilled to have found this site of other Lutherans. Now all we need is to create a "Bar" where we can all chat and drink the German Beer together!! Nice to hear from you,
God's Blessings,
Brandon

Thanks for the message. We are actually planning on coming out to Huntington Beach in August 2008 to give a presentation on the work going on here in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Hope to see you there!

Hey, thanks for the reminder about us Nashville Lutherans. I checked with the LCMS churches in the area, and, sad to say, none are having a sunrise service or Saturday vigil. I couldn't find a tre ore service for Friday either.

With such an apparent interest in theology, ever thought of becoming a pastor?

I'm a medieval and Reformation historian and really like the art of the period. I have no artistic talent whatsoever and really don't "get" much art produced after the Romantic period. I can appreciate the talent it takes to produce anything.
