Open Letter to Lutheran Bloggers and "New Media" producers.

Dear Lutheran "New Media" producers. The Internet and World Wide Web are a great tool.  What excites me most is the way that these technologies can facilitate the mutual work of the Church between pastors and congregations in ways not possible or at least not as easy before.  Unfortunately, the laws and legal machinations of the society we live in can hamper what may otherwise take place.  Therefore, I am writing with a request to all bloggers and new media producers.  Since it is clear from…See More

Mission/Service Trips

Many individuals and groups within congregations elect to take time and spend significant amounts of money traveling to various places on mission and service trips that often serve as little more than a cover for taking a vacation.  While I'm not entirely against the practice and can see some benefits, I'm curious where this practice originated - and more importantly, how "good, right, and salutary" is this practice?  At its base, it seems to me to be little more than modified version of the…See More

"Blessed are You!" (Understanding Matthew 5:1-12)

Greetings in the Name above all names, our revealed Lord, Jesus the Anointed One!

I don't intend to start a debate.  I am, however, endeavoring an evangelical understanding of Jesus' words given to us by St. Matthew in the text for this coming Sunday.

To "briefly" summarize my question for consideration:  Aside from our fallen nature which doesn't 'hear' the Gospel even when it is clearly preached, and aside from "tradition" and our own rehearsed thinking, (being…

Terrific! I am so glad. Thrilled to be able to welcome her as a sister in Christ! We were going to ask if Jonathan wanted to spend the night this weekend, but seeing has you'd be out of town, I'm sure it isn't the best time. Maybe in a few weeks (Chris has something going on next week).
