"Prayer is a conversation between God and you. It starts with His Word. Prayer is always intimately connected to Scripture. An ongoing part of our confession. Our voice of faith."

Gates arrest and Racial Bias?

OK, so this item has been in the news for a little while, and at first I wasn’t paying it much attention seeing this as one more example of a blown out of proportion racial clash coming from the States. I mean, we get enough of those on the news so that I am fairly immune to it all, and tune out rather quickly.

But then a friend of mine was talking about it on facebook, a black man from the US. He seemed very upset by the whole thing, so I asked him exactly what detail upset him so… Continue

CS Lewis, Emotional Experience, and Liturgy

I think that it can be said in all honesty that man is the supreme arbiter of his own perceptions. And these perceptions are the paradigm through which reality, as objective truth, are filtered. Assuming that there is an objective reality, and “true” reality is not shaped in any real sense by one’s own perception, then it becomes, if not impossible, difficult in the extreme to gain any clear sense of that reality without bending it towards one’s own perception of reality.

Thus is our… Continue

The Didache and the Pedobaptist Controversy

The Didache and the Pedobaptist Controversy

Word Count: 5,177

Introduction

The Didache was an extremely important guide for the practical application of the Christian faith in the early or “primitive” Church, especially in its focus on Syrian Christianity. This document provides a step by step “guide,” if you will, to the practice of the baptismal ceremony, and it is there that this paper will focus. This paper is reflective upon a five century… Continue

I just read your comment on Lutheranism in Canada and I want to say kudos to you for speaking the truth. Be careful, though, because the Edm Sem is famous for crucifying (pardon the inference) confessional men. I laud and praise the Lord Christ for you and the men who follow in the steps of the Reformers! If you ever want to preach at me congregation ( only an hour south of the Sem) you're more than welcome!

I've meet some other solid Lutherans from Canada over the past year or so. It's good to discover another one.

Just one fly in today's ointment: The way my brain's wired, I see "Quinn" and "Edmonton" in your profile and immediately have the image of Martin Luther standing in mukluks outside of an igloo. Let the reader understand.

Quinn,
What year are you in in the sem? I'm looking for someone to fill in for me on a Sunday in November and I thought of you first. I don't know when I'll be gone but I have to be out of the country for vacation for at least one Sunday. Let me know if you can fill in for me. You will, of course, be paid by the congregation.
Pax Christi,
Jeff
