I am the sole pastor for Redford Evangelical Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI. I was called to the Office of the Holy Ministry after spending 23+ years in the Air Force flying fighters and as a Military Parachutist in command of an Air Support Operations Squadron (Tactical Air Control). I am married with five children.
I am confessional and orthodox (Being confessional is orthodox by definition isn't it?), and I follow the traditional liturgies of the historic Lutheran Church.

The Fourth Sunday After Trinity

Text: Luke 6:36-42

In the Name of the Father, and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.” That’s easy to say, but not so easy to do. After all, what does it really mean to be merciful?

To be merciful is to be like Joseph, hated by his brothers, stripped of his robe, cast into a pit, sold into slavery and—because he… Continue

The Second Sunday after Trinity

Text: Luke 14:15-24

In the Name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“Come, for all things are now ready.” Our Lord loves a feast. Therefore, He is pleased and happiest when His beloved children are gathered at table around Him. He would like you to be there, at His great High Feast, so He sends His servant out to call you in. “Come, for all things are now ready,” His… Continue

The First Sunday after Trinity

Text: Luke 16:19-31

In the Name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

What is it to hear Moses and the Prophets? To hear Moses and the Prophets is to hear the Voice of God. For God speaks to you through His Word, read, taught, and preached, and with this Word He creates faith where there was none before. Where there is faith there is the forgiveness of sins, for we are saved… Continue

The Feast of the Holy Trinity

Text: John 3:1-17

In the Name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As one worships so one believes, and as one believes so one worships. This little principle was conceived and given voice by a man just like each of you—a layman who is remembered by history as Prosper of Aquitaine. His principle has come to be known as “the rule of faith.” In short, it means that how one… Continue

Dear Robert, Helen, Roger, Linda, and Dean, and all the beloved family and friends of Frederica (Freddy),

Frederica was ready for Sunday, even if we were not. She said as much nearly a year ago. She was ready, and so she waited with patient anticipation for God to fulfill the promise He… Continue

What can I say? I just take and take and never give back!

We miss you guys! I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by. I'm glad you put on the extra pictures -- they help to fill in the gaps. Jessica and Rachel -- yikes! Lock them in the house, quickly! (I'm terrified to think of my girls at that age!) Matthew reminds me so much of my Aidan. And Grace -- what a gift. God has blessed us richly, eh?

I like you pedigree, Ray!

It is my firm conviction the the best place to find future pastors is either the officer corps of our military or stubborn young free spirits who defer to no one and who either will be transformed by the Truth that is greater then they are, or they will become good candidates for jail.

Thank you for your past service to God and country. Thank you for your current service to God and country.

Well wishes back to you, Ken. I would be great to hoist a couple and solve the problems of Church and world together.

Most of the students in the graduate classes I teach at Colorado Christian University here along the Front Range are members of the officer corps of the Army and Air Force. We, as you know, have Ft. Carson, the Air Force Academy, and Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases here locally in addition to the "Cave". They have discovered a strong affinity between their values and a Christian world view, hence they have chosen to partner with CCU for some of their advanced degree programs. These men and women have been an inspiration to me.

Blessings!

I was unfamiliar with the Flood Prayer. The LSB has it in the Baptism Service. LW does not include it and TLH does not have a baptism service--so that is why I do not remember it.

We have a grandchild due in mid-July. Looking forward to not only the birth of this one (#6 for us) but also the baptism. It is alway like a double birthday!

Thank you for the information, prayer and encouragement.

I've heard of Tactical Air Command but not Tactical Air Control.

Yes, that helps. I was in the USAF when commands were called ACC, AMC and ATC - I also served in the Kansas Air National Guard. I left doing flightline avionics in the military (B-1B's and KC-135's) for avionics in the civilian sector - much better pay. (That's not my current job, BTW. I am a non-destructive research associate for a civilian R&D lab.)

So why did you leave such a glorious career to become a pastor?
