Nothing earth-shattering to say about myself - serve as pastor, husband, father - and don't have as much time to read as I would like...

As to why I'm here - well, I believe the community of faith is called to stand together in Christ and the clear confession of His work, His Person and His grace - for those reasons and many more, I continue to be grateful that God led me to the Witttenberg Trail back in 1980....

Pastor Long, I'm trying to be your friend, but haven't been successful as yet (???). I'll click on 'Add as friend" and you will probably have to respond. Sorry about that. Anyway, we are planning on visiting the fair city of Peoria next weekend for Andrew's confirmation. Laurel & I appreciate your instructing Andrew in the faith. God's blessings. Bob VG

Any "friend" of Bennett Falk's is my friend too! He is the best - have had great talks with him -met him through our joint membership on the No. Alameda Thrivent Board. He was so good at "pretending" that I was doing something useful the four months I was in the Hospital in 2006 that even I believed it. He helped me "write" checks and did the exercises for my paralyzed hands that I am sure contributed to their eventual return to usefulness.

Sorry, I would say you have fallen into "Grace" as you are now a LCMS pastor (grin)! I am a member of Zion Lutheran (LCMS) in Piedmont (Oakland) area. Piedmont is the mailing address but the Church is actually on the Border of the Monclair area of Oakland and there is a long story attached to why we have that attachment to the Piedmont address. I sometimes believe as we are the last big (400) LCMS church in the Oakland area, that others see us as that " pretentious pretending protestant church" on the hill -but, I don't find that at all -it's my home and I love it.

Hey, Barry, it's good to hear from you. I hope all is well.

Life in Berkeley percolates along in much the same way as always, and I'm still at the Chapel. I don't recall when you were last there, but you might not recognize the place these days. We remodeled the building extensively a couple of years ago.

Have fun and stay in touch,
bennett

Haha...yeah, the picture was from the CID convention a couple of years ago. I also met and had my picture taken with the SP, however this is hardly the venue to be displaying such things...

Welcome! Thank you, Pastor Long, for joining Illinois Lutherans!
My name is Rik, and I've noticed other states had Lutheran sites. I'm glad we can have one for Illinois.

Please feel free to discuss whatever is important to you here. If you know of others who might be interested in joining--for example, someone else from your congregation or another Illinois pastor, by all means, they too are welcome here!

I, myself, was baptized at an LCA church in the northern-most part of Chicago. While I was in grade-school, my family switched to an LCMS church in Skokie . I went to college out of state (where I met my wife), and Tami and I currently reside here in Rockford. I'm open to any thoughts you might have for where this group can go. Thank you for joining

You mentioned St. Luke's Oviedo. Our church we vacation at every year. My parents, retired pastor, were members there 37 and 41 years. Very familiar with it as they lived at the retirement center. Lot of good God pleasing growth and I can testify to certain ways in which it was given to God for guidance instead of their own decisions along the way.
