Seth commented on Rev. Mike Keith's blog post Thoughts on Sanctification
"Furthermore, this helps clarify the source of sanctification. All too often sanctification is presented as something that must be attained. It is not. It is something that is given as gift. Just as faith is given as a gift (Eph. 2:8-9) so…"

Thoughts on Sanctification

As I was driving home from Balcarres this morning after giving Holy Communion to some of the residents I had a thought. I don't know if it is original. Perhaps it is just something that I read or heard before that is bubbling up to the surface. Perhaps it is something that I put together in my brain. But here are some thoughts on sanctification:

In the Preface to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans Luther wrote:

"Sin in the Scriptures… Continue

Things That Give Me Pause in North American Lutheranism #2

The next in my list of things that give me pause in North American Lutheranism is: congregational elders. It is not that I dislike elders - in fact I find the Board of Elders at my congregation rather helpful in several ways. The thing that gives me pause is the way in which in LCMS/LCC circles the congregational elders are viewed. I am not necessarily saying they are wrong or even that I disagree with them - simply that they give me pause and I am currently giving them thought. The first things that gives me pause:

The term President in the LCMS/LCC. We use the term District President and Synod President. Why? I am… Continue

Hey Mark,

I was reading on your thread where you posted your paper on Laity officiating at the Lord's Supper a reference to a Cwirla-Bender discussion. Where might I find that at?
