I confess to having nearly forgotten about the existence of the Wittenberg Trail, in all the hussle and the bustle of life.  I was glad to be reminded again.   Out of curiousity, I'd love to hear how all y'all who function in…

I am not sure I understand. If it is a small congregation, how is it you are their assistant instead of thier pastor??

Good morning, I think the worker-priest model can be very effective in these situations. I currently serve a small congregation in Tacoma as their assistant, and provide some things that might not otherwise be possible. However, as a worker-priest,…

Is Being a Worker - Priest a Good Alternative Ministry Path?

I would like to hear from all my brothers on this board regarding thier view of Worker-Priests. Especially with so many older, smaller, lutheran churches... should they just be allowed to die?  or should they be served by lay ministers/deacons?  or should they be served by ordained pastors? If your answer is that they should be served, rather than being allowed to die, and that they should be served by an ordained pastor.  What can be done to help make this possible. I hope that you will take…See More

I agree. Your understanding of the Sacrament and its foundational role in the divine service is commendable. Rev. Schnack

Argument for - Flags, banners, etc are used in churches to TEACH GOD'S TRUTHS. Putting a flag of the nation and the flag of the church can very well serve as a way of reminding people that we do indeed teach the concept of 2 kingdoms. Argument…

Having read all the posts so far, I shall give my opinion on a number of matters brought up. 1. The terms sacrifice and mass - Mass simply means gathering. It is the term used by the church for ages and ages, including the lutheran church during…

Excellent Job all. One thing that is not stated is the NEED for this doctrine to be so important. Certainly accepting what scriptures teach about the God we belong to is important in and of itself. But there is yet another reason not mentioned which…

Rev. Schnack, since you were the only one to respond to my inquiry about the Augsburg Confession, I wanted to ask you a more direct question about it. Article XIV (Order in the Church) states that "nobody should publicly teach or preach ...... without a regular call" (German translation). The Latin translation is almost word for word, but excludes the word "teach". Is that difference significant? If we believe only called servants can teach, why wasn't it important enough to be presented in Latin?
Thank you for your response. Blessings to you.
