"My suggestion is chess.com. I think it's the best online chess site. I'd be happy to play him. My handle on there is "Peper"."

ND District Convention and LCMS Name Change, More...

I just received word from a friend of mine with some updates on the North Dakota District convention. This is the first convention of this cycle, in which all the districts are set to meet. Here's what he reports:

____

We just heard the presentation on restructuring. They had a nice format and presented 20 proposed changes, each with a basis for the proposed change and the consequences. President Kieschnick and 1st Vice President Diekelman are here, also Matt Harrison and… Continue

Harrison: "It's Time"

Rev. Matt Harrison, whose name is being mentioned by many as a candidate for LCMS president in 2010, has written a paper which describes what is ailing our synod but also suggests a plan of how to fix it. It's all the buzz of the Lutheran blogosphere right now, and you should read it too:

Libertarians and Lutherans

Has anyone else noticed a strong corellation between very conservative, even Libertarian political thinking and confessional Lutheranism?

What accounts for this?

On Elections, Voting and Citizenship

The following is my "Pastor's Page" for the November church newsletter:

Some thoughts on elections, voting, and Christian citizenship

Dear members of Grace,

Shortly, many Americans will be heading to the polls to cast our votes for President and other government offices. While it is not the pastor's place to endorse candidates or tell you which way to vote, I do think that our identity as Christians does shape the way we look at voting, and helps us… Continue

Tom,

I'm in Fort Wayne taking two STM intensives at the moment (have a few minutes before next class: Old Testament Theology with Dr. Hummel and Theology of Church Fellowship with Prof. Ziegler. Good classes. Had you met Phil Zelienski? He was the rep from CTS during the conference. Is it true that there was a unanimous vote concerning Issues, Etc.? How's the family? Our second son (Eagan) turned 9mnths today.

In Christ,
Tom

Sorry for the delay. We moved here last summer so I had to go on an adventure into the basement to determine where the clocks were(are). They are found...

I have four BHB chess clocks, imported from West Germany on 6/14/92. (My dad kept good records ;-)

They are wind-up analog clocks, with a single hanging flag. There is also the demarcations for the last five minutes for speed chess. Meaning as the flag goes up it points to 5(minutes left), then 4, 3,2,1,0 drop.

The cases are all plastic. I checked USCF and Ebay and they range in price from $20 to $40.00

Is $15.00 each too much, total $60.00?

Afters some thought, I will donate the clocks. My dad would have wanted it that way, during his whole career he spent many hours promoting chess to school children. I am a bit ashamed to have asked for the $. Tell me how to get them to you...

We were going to have a NICL retreat up at DeKoven this month, but getting commitments from guys to attend was a problem. We are going to try again later in the year. All South Wisconsin guys will be invited and encouraged to attend.
