Tell us about yourself ( e.g. hobbies, education, projects you are working on, etc.). What brings you to the Wittenberg Trail?
I was baptized into the Holy Catholic Church by the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines as a baby infant on 02JUL1972.

I am an adult Lutheran convert from mostly a non-denominational background so I can recognize something non-Lutheran faster than most Lutherans and faster than you can shake a stick at.

I was confirmed into the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Reformation Sunday, October 31st, 1999, at Grace Ev. LCMS, in McPherson, KS, under then Pastor Jeff Williams.

As of 24AUG2010Tu...

My current church and shepherd is Redeemer ELS, in Scottsdale, AZ, and Pastor David J. Webber. Page 15 from The Lutheran Hymnal is what we follow every other Sunday; while page 5 for the other Sunday.

I live in Mesa, AZ. Yes, my wife and I travel 84 miles round trip for a good Lutheran church, IMPLYING THERE ARE NO GOOD CHURCHES IN MESA, AZ.

My lovely bride, Erica Olson (AKA MrsSwede), since August 31st, 2002, is one of the editors for Higher Things Reflections.

I have a few nick names: The Terrible Swede (from my wife), L4Lutefisk (from IRC) and The Largest Filipino on Earth (college). More: Darth Swede, Bear Jew and 300 Lutefisks.

One of my many reasons to be a part of the WTOC is to network with other Lutherans.

I have probably just as many avocations as I do vocations.

I am the most technical Redneck, you'll ever know. I used to work in a government R&D aviation lab - now I work in a commercial R&D aviation lab. As of 24AUG2010Th: I work on military helicopters - killing terrorists indirectly.

I'm diversified in mathematics, physics (electricity/magnetism; x-rays; ultrasonics - longitudinal, shear, rayleigh, lamb waves, and vibration analysis; thermodynamics/infrared/thermography; optics - including scanning electron microscope), robotics - the AUSS V, AUSS XVII and MAUS V, avionics (comm/nav & guidance/control), and aviation (civilian and military). My thermal profile says, "hot"! :P

I drink and love beer - particularly hoppy ales.

Toyota is my vehicle of choice: I only own one now! A 2010 Highlander Hybrid Ltd; 2002 4Runner Ltd (sold Summer 2010; 1997 Tacoma (sold Spring 2010) and 1992 Celica GT (sold Summer 2009). If I could ever work in Toyota's aviation R&D lab - I would in a heart beat. I continue to cheer for Toyota in all NASCAR events.

I've been hanging out mostly on FB (TerribleSwede) & Twitter (Terrible_Swede).

My current church and shepherd is Christ Ev. LCMS, in Hutchinson, KS, and Pastor Michael Brockman. Page 15 from The Lutheran Hymnal is what we follow almost every Sunday with the occasional German Mass implying Mass every Sunday.

I live in Wichita, KS. Yes, my wife and I travel 120 miles round trip for a good Lutheran church, IMPLYING THERE ARE NO GOOD CHURCHES IN WICHITA, KS.

It's good to here from a friend in the Wichita area. How are you both doing? It was good to read that Erica was involved with HT, how about you? Any extra church related activities? Rebecca managed to fall into the chior director's position at the only LCMS congregation in the greater Savannah area just three months after arriving in 2006. So much for singing together, but I wouldn't have it any other way. She is really a great director, Christ first, music second.

Greetings Ron,

My first exposure to Kansas was my vicarage in Topeka form 2002-2003. Had a nice time getting to know Pr. Brockman.

Next time I'm in Wichita we should grab a beer.

I left this comment on one of the newest groups I joined, "Commuting Confessionals" sub-topic "Things To Do On Your Commute":

Any details of what my wife and I do as we commute to and from Mass will be deemed as non-Christian by Paul T. McCain. He has a misunderstanding of sanctification.

Ron,
Good to know you. MY Dad served in WWII in the Navy until his heart attack(from rheumatic fever as a boy) on USS Enterprise CV-6. I served. Now, my oldest son is a Coast Guard Helicopter pilot.

My Air Force knowledge is really very basic. Our missions are totally different. When I retired things were changing organizationally in the Navy and Marine Corps so it was a full time job to keep up with that.

I know this: The Air Force flew my Marines where we needed to go, and brought me to and from Gulf War I when my Mom died. And, at Torrejon, Spain, the Air Force had some great chow ready for us travelers. Ron, to you, a big thank you from me.

I'm not exactly sure what the Latin is--and the letters are an abbreviation from the Latin--but in essence, it means I'm on the LCMS clergy roster and eligible to receive a Call, but I'm not serving a congregation right now. It roughly translates into "candidate for the Holy Ministry".

Hi Ron,

iijohnai is a Japanese/English play on words. I would say it is pronounced ee-john-eye which sounds like a Japanese slang word meaning something like "that's good, isn't it?" My first name is in the middle.

So what kind of avionics work do you do? I'm a flight line tech at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln so I work on just about every imaginable avionics system ever installed in a corporate jet.

And yes, my wife and I love Car Talk!

Also, there's a beer tasting section that I hope to share in the near future.
