Tom Shepherd replied to Suzee's discussion Lutheran Theology Differs from..... and other related dangers in the group Study Group/The Lutheran Confessions
"I've often wondered why we as Lutherans don't consider ourselves as Reformed or as Protestants.  This helps to clear that up.  Rather then Reformed Catholics, we are Restored Catholics.  Does that make…"

"Those who try to explain away the crossing of the Red Sea by saying the water was very shallow, neglect the necessary miracle that the entire Egyptian army would have drowned in a few inches of water!"

Tom Shepherd replied to Kari's discussion The Eighth Commandment in the group Study Group/The Lutheran Confessions
"I can certainly see how this can happen, but how should church discipline be handled? Shouldn't the first few steps be between the offender and the offended in secret, then brought before a few others before being brought before the church? "

I have been an LCMS Lutheran Christian since baptism as an infant. I was introduced to the Wittenberg Trail by a friend while discussing the loss of Issues, Etc. Since then I have met some wonderful, committed Christians, and have grown spiritually in the process.

Ever considered becoming a pastor?

Hi, Tom!! This is indeed a very good site with a lot to learn here. As I see Scott Stiegemeyer's question to you, I might echo it, too. Would you consider it, please?

When are you traveling to Laramie next?

I'm not positive how many WY pastors are on this site, but I know they formed a WY district pastor's forum and there are 8 members on it so far. I know at least these are on it: Pr. Shawn Kumm, Pr. Marcus Zill, Pr. Jason Harris, your pastor, one from Nebraska and I'm sure I've seen others, too. If you go to my page, and click on my pastor's picture (Pr. Shawn Kumm) you will go to his page. From there, you can see among his friends many WY pastors.

Hi, Tom. Funny you talk about snooping around the site because it sounded like me. I haven't seen a St. Andrews forum start yet, although many people have indicated that they once were members (fond memories, too). Maybe that's something you could do. (hint, hint). Matt Jamison from New York seems to be a good first candidate--Karen Gabriel from Laramie would join, too.

Thanks very much for the reassurance. I noticed you live in Gillette, Wyoming. It really is a small world. I am a native of Wyoming and have spent many nights in Gillette for work in my previous career.

I grew up in both Green River and Rock Springs. I worked in the oil field before going back to school. I was constantly going up to Casper and Gillette for work. One thing is for sure, you definitely live in the prettier part of the state.

About 2 years ago. Every where is prettier than Rock Springs. The only scenery is White Mountain, and that just looks dirty all the time.

I spent 7 years on the service end of the oil field. When I finally worked my way into a position where I didn't have to get my hands dirty, I found that it was less satisfying. There is something about physically working to accomplish a task. Its humbling and uplifting at the same time.

Bruce and I talk about the day of the landing on the moon fairly frequently, mostly because that was the day that we seemed to have "bonded" with the youth in Riverton. The youth has spent the day in Dubois for a picnic, although I don't think the youth from Dubois was there. Remember all the jokes we told? We laughed so much that I knew this was a good group. We watched the landing on TV at Oberheu's. It was a big day in many respects.
