Short latin texts

2. Cor. 13,13 is the sermon text for the Sunday of the holy Trinity in Germany, this year. A friend sent me this most beautiful quote from Friedrich Balduin's commentary on the passage:

Conjugit hic tres personas sanctae Trinitatis, & cuique praeclarum tribuit beneficium, quod Corinthiis suis conclusionis loco precatur.

Deo Patri tribuit charitatem, qua nimirum ita nos dilexit , ut unigenitum suum nobis daret Filium, Ioh.3,16, quam ob causa ipsa dilectio vocatur, 1. Ioh.4.8.… Continue

200. birthday of Ludwig Harms

Hi Armin,

Welcome. We are very happy to have you as a member
of the Wittenberg Trail. I hope you enjoy it.

In 2005 my wife and I went to Germany to visit the
Luther sites in Wittenberg, Eisleben and Eisenach.
We also worshiped at the SELK congregation in
Wiesbaden. We throughly enjoyed the visit but
our German is "nicht sehr gut."

I'm pastor David W. Raetz, a LCMS pastor emeritus

"Lößlin" ist der alte deutsche Name. Vielleicht soll ich diesen Namen in Deutschland verwenden. Es wäre sehr einfacher für die Deutschen!

Yes, I think, I remember you - were you here together with your wife and children?

Wishing you a blessed holy week, Pastor Armin Wenz

Hi Armin,

Thank you; I hope I did justice to the original German. I haven't had much time recently to read and translate more of your sermons, but hopefully now that Lent and Holy Week have concluded I will have an opportunity.

I especially found your sermon on the Reformation (I don't recall which year it was, offhand) to be wonderful. It has been a joy and an encouragement to read and translate your sermons. Thank you for your sound Lutheran confessionalism and law and gospel preaching.

Hello, Armin... Thanks for inviting me to join your group. I was in Oberursel in '94-'95. I remember Rev. Tepper. My good friends at the Hochschule were Andreas Preis and Kristoff Baumann. I met them in St. Louis while they were exchange students in the U.S. In 2004 I arranged a Luther/Bach tour to Germany for 28 people. I'm now working on another tour in 2010 to include the Oberammergau Passion Play. In the meantime, I'm trying to keep up my German by reading the DW web-page and by conversing with a German instructor who's a member of my congregation. Dan

It was you who brought this website to my attention. I very much appreciate your frequent email commentaries. I hope our pathes will cross sometime soon.

Lieber Breuder Wenz,
Wilbert Kreiss

Hi Armin,
Nice to hear from you! Our family lives in St. Francis, MN, about 45 minutes north of Minneapolis. Maybe you forgot that I emailed you and asked whether perhaps you could stop in and visit us when you are in the area--I think you said in your letter/email that you are planning to visit Holger Sonntag in Carver. Anyway, you are always welcome to visit us and if you can fit it in, overnight or just for an afternoon or dinner or whatever, we would certainly love to see you and your family. Or we could perhaps even meet in Minneapolis for some siteseeing. All depends on the schedule, of course.
Presently I am in S. Africa teaching for three weeks in Pretoria. Wilhelm Weber says he knows you. I return home this Friday and our daughter Katie will have her Confirmation this coming Sunday.
All the best,
John
