Rev. Robert Mayes replied to reda's discussion the meaning of soul&spirit in the group Ask the Pastor
"Hey Reda: I agree with your definition of soul that it often points to the whole of a person and not just some invisible spirit inside him. The cartoonist Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) has often made fun of Christianity because of our vagaries of…"

"Thanks for the answer. I've been reading up on this intensely the last few days. That's an interesting point concerning the Heb. passage. It seems to me from studing this, that the soul being mortal, it has the ability to experience death.…"

Rev. Robert Mayes replied to reda's discussion the meaning of soul&spirit in the group Ask the Pastor
"Hi Reda. Good question. Hope I can answer your question to your satisfaction. Looking at the Greek of Heb. 4:12, I notice that the double-edged sword of the Word divides between the psuches and the pneumatos. It may not be that "soul" has…"

the meaning of soul&spirit

The hebrew word for soul is nephesh as in meaning a breathing creature and also appetite and the greek word for soul is psuche as in meaning breath by impl. spirit. My question is what does it mean when the soul has the same meaning as spirit but the word of God can divide the two? as in Heb. 4:12. Also the word spirit in the greek meaning pneuma as in a rational and immortal soul is an opposite statement in the belief that the soul isn't immortal. In reference to losing the soul is it the same…See More

I just got on the Trail again after a huge absence.

Love your hair! Mine is also going grey, slowly. I was just telling my girls yesterday, that I am finding women who don't dye intriguing. With so many people dyeing their hair today, "not dying" is a kind of statement. Of course, it's cheaper and saves time, too. : )

Our small mission church has made the decision to close as of January 3rd. It has been a wonderful little fellowship. Just 30 or so are present on Sunday mornings and they are mostly seniors. Since we are so small, we don't split the kids off to separate activities, except education, so our children know all of the members and talk to the adults. It reminds me a bit of the church I grew up in, in the 50's and 60's.

We are fairly certain where we will worship next, but will visit for a while before actually joining.

Are things well with you?

Gotta run. I hope to come back more often(!), but I seem to be busier this school year than before.

Love, Elizabeth
