The Wittenberg Trail

Forde, Paulsen, and Nestigen, Oh MY!

Greetings in the name of Christ

I am in the middle of reading "The Preached God" by Gerhard Forde and in the past I have read writings by Dr. Steven Paulsen & Dr. Jim Nestigen.  What has your experience been with these guys?  What are the concerns as LCMS pastors?  I am finding their focus on forgiveness, the proclaimed Gospel, and the bound will to be wonderful.  Yet, I know they do not promote the third use of the law.  What other things do we need to  look out for?

These guys are great!

They are Luther, Lutherans. Not Melancthon Lutherans...or any other kind of Lutherans.

Enjoy them and bask in the freedom that Christ has won for!

Nestigen is superb. Don't know Paulsen. And, as for Forde, he's much loved by many highly respected LCMS clergy and professors... but when I sat under his teaching back at Luther Seminary I was constantly concerned about how his approach to talking about grace invited antinomianism. Not that he was antinomian, but that people of that heretical persuasion would love much of what he said...
